In the 19th century, General Bertrand, who had attended the emperor Napoleon fallen at Saint-Hélène, took great care of Lagnys land and deeply marked the region.

He created lands whose name recall the Egyptian Napoleonic campaign: Cairo, Nile, Pyramids, Kabyle wood...
Exerting his engineering talents, he built farm buildings, irrigation canals were dug and wonderful avenues were drawn.

Thanks to him, Champagne Berry bare plains were covered with forests, dry and wild soils turned into cultivated grassland.

He undertook the culture of beetroot and the improvement of animals’wool. If his efforts were not always crowned with success, they were meritorious.
The general equipped his ploughmen with sophisticated agricultural tools that allowed to achieve great progress.
