The first reference to Saint-Valentin village goes back to 1190: "apud sanctum valentinium" means "close to Saint-Valentin". In 1332, we
found: "parochia Sancti Valentini" meaning "parish
church of Saint-Valentin". Five feudal hillocks may have exist in Saint-valentin site, the borough extending around the most important if we judge from the length of ditches still visible on the communal land registry of 1838. We do not find any traces of castle, but in 1392, the borough was strengthened by ramparts and ditches and the "portal", name of the small farm that is included, means "house next to the door". |
